Goshen, N.Y. – As the warm weather approaches, Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus encourages residents to call a beekeeper to safely remove honey bees from their property and save the important insects.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, honey bee populations face increasing risks from parasites, disease, lack of adequate nutrition and pesticide exposure.

Honey Harvest Threatened

Sometimes we pass by small things and take little or no notice but for Marlborough beekeeper Nick Catania it is the diminutive honey bee that has grabbed his attention. He understands that these bees are threatened by chemicals, pesticides, herbicides as well as from parasites and pathogens and are struggling just to survive. He is sounding an alarm and is warning the public about what is at stake.
